The Indy 500 Snake Pit is always one of my favorite shows of the year to shoot. I’ve been covering it since 2016 and every year the production gets better, and the party gets bigger. It’s such a unique event as the festival itself is in the middle of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500 is going on all around you.
It’s also the earliest show I shoot. The first set starts at 7am, headliners are on by noon, and the whole event is over by 4pm. This year boasted an all-star lineup of Skrillex, Alesso, Illenium, Chris Lake, and Ricky Retro. One of the things I struggle with at this event is showing just how massive this place really is. Unless you have a drone or a helicopter, I feel like the photos don’t do it justice. In most of my crowd shots, you can see the Indianapolis Motor Speedway grandstands off in the distance, and that’s only a small section of the track.
